Dr. Rey Romero (University of Houston-Downtown) will address the role of language in society and the incidence of sociopolitical contexts in language development and use, with a focus on language shift, language and identity, and language maintenance. This presentation will focus on the use of corpus data in understanding ongoing linguistic change in Spanish and Portuguese intensifiers. Intensifiers are known to be prime candidates for gauging language change and variation (across regions and age groups)
