Spanish Ph.D. candidate Sarah Valentín-Sánchez gives lecture at Side Walk Film Center + Cinema

Last week, Side Walk Film Center + Cinema in Birmingham celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, sponsored by the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama. One of the movies shown was Pan’s Labyrinth, and they invited our PhD student, Sarah Valentin-Sanchez, to lecture. She gave insight into alchemy in the film, from the director Guillermo del Toro to the characters. She also contextualized the movie in the Francoism era. It was a fascinating talk, full of curiosities, and which all attendees enjoyed.
