Congratulations to Aparna Bhooshanan and Addison Miller on being selected for the CLS Program 2024 to study Chinese

Statement from Dr. Xiang Zhang, Chinese Program Director:

I’m pleased to announce that two Chinese Minor students, Aparna Bhooshanan and Addison Miller, have been selected for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program 2024 to study Chinese. They will join a diverse group of American students dedicated to mastering critical languages in summer. Aparna will be studying at National Cheng Kung University, while Addison will be at Tamkang University, both for fifteen hours per week of language study for two months.  The CLS program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the American Councils for International Education. The applicant pool was highly competitive, making the selection of Aparna and Addison an impressive accomplishment.

Both students have been participating in my project “Conversational Agents Supporting Heritage Language Literacy: A Neuroscientific Study” since last August. They will also present this project at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference (URCA) in late March at UA.

Join us as a department in congratulating the Chinese Program and their students, Aparna Bhooshanan (left) and Addison Miller (right)!
