Mrs. Nora Cortiñas is one of the founding members of the Madres de Plaza de Mayo, Línea Fundadora (Argentina). Since 1977, this activist group has been protesting their childrens' disappearances during a military dictatorship. The Madres are famous around the world for meeting every Thursday in the central space for Argentine civil engagement, the Plaza de Mayo, where they occupy public space and walk around a fountain, reminding their government and community that urgent questions about the dictatorship remain unanswered. The Madres continue to press for information about the fate of the disappeared and work for reunification with their missing grandchildren, who are now young adults.
