Reading Proficiency Exams

The Graduate Exam of Reading Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is offered to graduate students at the end of each semester, typically two weeks before finals week. It is not a “qualifying exam,” but a translation exam. If you are interested in taking a reading proficiency exam, please submit a Request for Graduate Exam of Reading Proficiency and email Dr. Laura Rojas-Arce for Spanish or Dr. Jared Hendrickson for Portuguese.

The Spring 2023 exam for both Spanish and Portuguese will be given on Wednesday, April 19th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in B.B. Comer 262. Students outside the Department of Modern Languages and Classics will be charged $35 cash, to be paid on the day of the exam.

Note: Students in graduate programs from other departments are advised to check with their program advisors prior taking a course or either exam as described below.
