Overview

The faculty and staff of the Japanese program are dedicated to promoting your success in communicating in Japanese and understanding Japanese culture. We offer a minor in Japanese. For up-to-date information on the minor’s requirements and course offerings, please refer to the Undergraduate Catalog.

Japanese is a popular choice among students today. There are many cultural exchange programs, scholarships to study abroad in Japan, and career opportunities available to UA students taking Japanese.

Campus Life

group of taiko drummersWith a large population of native Japanese students on campus, you can make a cultural connection in a structured setting with our weekly Conversation Cafe. Japanese students enjoy using their native language, and the non-native students learn valuable speaking skills and make new friends at the same time.

The students in the Japanese program are very active in extracurricular clubs and social events related to Japan. Many students taking Japanese also sign up for clubs such as the Japan Club, Anime Club, Taiko (Japanese Drumming) Team, and Conversation Cafe.

Join us now in the Japanese program for an experience you’ll never forget!
