MLC is very honored that Dr. Kirk Summers was chosen as a Commencement Marshal. Kirk accepted this honor and was the Marshal at Summer Commencement.
The role of the Faculty Commencement Marshal is one of the highest honors bestowed on distinguished professors and it is a cherished tradition not only at UA but at nearly all US colleges and universities. It involves an initial nomination at the level of the chair which then goes forward for additional nominations made by the Dean of the College and upper administration. The dossier is also voted on and approved by the Faculty Senate.
Commencement Marshal candidates must be esteemed full-time professors who have excelled in all areas of research, teaching, and service; career accomplishments are listed in detail in the nomination dossier. Kirk certainly met the criteria for this honor and then some!
