A Guest Lecture by Prof. George Giatsis from Aristotle University will take place September 27th at 4:00-5:30 pm, 354 ten Hoor. Giatsis has a doctoral on the biomechanics of volleyball; he is a Kinesiology professor at AUTh and very successful coach of Olympian athletes. He comes to us as an Erasmus scholar (a European program similar to the Fulbright), visiting the UA for an exchange of ideas and methods with his peers. He will talk to the MLC/Classics on the Latin motto “Mens sana in corpore sano: A healthy mind in a healthy body” and will regale us with his perspective on the classical tradition of athleticism (of which he is familiar as the son of a professor in Byzantine studies) and with stories about his experience as an Erasmus scholar as well as coach of elite beach-volleyball players, winners of Greek and European tournaments and champions in various categories.
