How do I get transfer credit for courses completed elsewhere?

Transfer Credit for either study abroad or domestic (US) study: If you are an A&S student, you must work through Capstone International Programs (BC 135). They have all the forms you will need. Transfer credit is taken care of by Ms. Wendy McMillian, Academic Advisor, 200 Clark Hall Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0268, Ph: (205) 348-7324 Email: wendy.mcmillian@ua.edu. If you are a CBA Student, you must first contact Mr. Danny McGuire (dmaguire@cba.ua.edu) in Rm. 10 of Bidgood Hall. If you are going abroad in Summer or Fall 2015 and are trying to be cleared to register, fill out the appropriate course sheet from Capstone International.

How do I apply for back credit?

You must complete the Spanish course you first take at UA with a C or better. Then, submit a Foreign Language Courses Credit Petition Form [PDF] in BB Comer 200. This option is not available to heritage language or bilingual individuals, as specified in the UA Catalog).

How do I declare a major or double major in Spanish?

For the Spanish major and all other double majors where both majors are in Arts and Sciences: First, open http://myBama.ua.edu, go to the Student tab and click on the red square Major/Minor. You MUST ALSO come to my office hours listed at the bottom of this email to declare your major in person. It is NOT enough to have done it online. If your first major is in a different college (not Arts and Sciences) you must go to Clark Hall 200 and declare the new A&S Spanish major in person.

Which Spanish class should I take?

If you do not know what Spanish class you should take or have questions regarding SP 101, 102, 103, 201 and 202, please come to BB Comer 234, the Elementary and Intermediate Coordinators’ Office.

If you had Spanish in high school and don’t know what class to register for, please take the placement test. Open http://myBama.ua.edu, click the Academics Tab, then in the Testing Services block, click on Foreign Language Assessment. The test is done online. Please bring in your results so we can determine which course would be best for you.

What’s the proper sequence for 353 and 356?

You may take 353 then 356 or 356 and then 353. You may also take 353 and 356 at the same time. If you study abroad, you may re-take both 353 and 356 for 300-level elective that counts toward the major and the minor.
