The Department of Modern Languages and Classics offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in foreign languages and literature (FLL) with an area of study in French. This prepares you to function effectively in a wide variety of professional contexts, from the commercial to the academic.
Prerequisites
Completion of introductory course sequence: FR 101 and FR 102 (or equivalent).
Placement Guidelines
Students with no prior knowledge of French should begin their course of study with FR 101 and FR 102.
All others should consult the French Placement Guidelines to determine their initial placement level.
Degree Requirements
The FLL major with an area of study in French requires the successful completion of 33 semester hours with a minimum of 12 hours of 300- and 400-level courses completed on this campus. A 2.0 grade point average in the major is required for completion of the degree. The major GPA is calculated based on all courses applicable to the major that the student has attempted at UA.
If students test out of any of the courses required for the major, this does not reduce the total number of credit hours required for the degree. Students are responsible for ensuring that they have met all University, college, major, and minor requirements.
Find detailed degree requirements, including course descriptions, in the UA Undergraduate Catalog.
Declare the area of study in FLL-French
You are expected to formally declare an FLL major no later than the fourth semester of full-time enrollment (or at 61 semester hours for transfer students). To declare a FLL major with an area of study in French, complete the Change of Major Application online under the Student tab of myBama.
