Graduate Teaching Assistantships

Graduate Teaching Assistantships for qualified students, when available, are awarded based primarily on previous academic record, the seriousness of purpose in pursuing a degree, and Spanish language competence. Teaching Assistantships offer the pedagogical experience and training necessary to be competitive in today’s job market.

All Graduate Teaching Assistants enrolled in the MA or the doctoral program (as well as other MA or doctoral candidates, on a voluntary basis), regardless of track, benefit from supervised in-service pedagogical training with a language acquisition specialist. The training includes a required course on foreign language teaching theories and methods (SP 502). There are also several options for professional development available, including workshops, which aim to develop teaching and presentational practices that are particularly valuable for future career placement.
