Study Abroad in Barranquilla, Colombia
The University of Alabama has a study abroad summer program in Barranquilla, Colombia.
This program will provide students with a total immersion in the Spanish language and culture and a unique opportunity to visit historical sites, monuments, and museums, as well as learn about Barranquilla and costeño culture. The program is designed to complement the instruction received at the University of Alabama for Spanish minors and majors.
Universidad del Norte (UniNorte), Barranquilla, Colombia
Universidad del Norte was founded in 1966 in Barranquilla, Colombia. It is a higher education institution that has characterized itself as one that meets the needs of Colombia´s Caribbean Region through its community relations, deep sense of ethics, transparency and excellence in its academic, extension and research activities.
Today Uninorte, as it goes by, is one of the most important and prestigious universities in Colombia, achieving very important national and international accreditations in various academic circles. Housing, Lodging, and Meals
Students live in homestays in pairs. A bus arrives daily to pick the students up in the morning and return them to their homestays in the afternoon.
Breakfast and dinner are provided by the host family. Students are given a stipend to purchase lunch on campus. During the weekend excursions, students are responsible for any meal when it is not provided by the hotel or when the group does not eat together.

Prerequisites can be waived with advisor’s permission
Extracurricular Activities and Excursions
In addition to completing coursework, students also take part in extracurricular activities. These include trips to various museums, tours of cities visited, and cultural activities.
Three of the weekends are spent outside of Barranquilla. The three excursion sites for Alabama in Colombia Summer 2019 are Santa Marta, San Andrés, and Cartagena.
