Four students receive Boren Scholarships for Language Study

Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide funding for US undergrads to study languages in world regions critical to US interests, and underrepresented in study abroad programs.

  • Meredith Cazalas, who is minoring in Japanese, will study Japanese in an intensive language program at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan.
  • Maria Huryn will be studying Russian language and Eastern European politics in Daugavpils, Latvia.
  • Amica Rapadas, who is minoring in Chinese, will go to Chengdu, China to strengthen her proficiency in Mandarin and to learn about culture and politics.
  • Samuel Watson, a French minor, will be in Seoul, Korea studying Korean.
