MLC hosts SC18: the 49th Annual Federación de los Círculos de Español de Alabama Convention

On April 6, 2018, the Spanish Program proudly hosted SC18, the 49th Annual Spanish Convention, which is organized in conjunction with La Federación de los Círculos del Español de Alabama (FCEA). This event, which the Department of Modern Languages and Classics has hosted for many years, brings together Alabama high school Spanish clubs for a fun day of competitions and events every spring. High school students have the opportunity to see campus life and earn prizes in competitions, including artwork, theater and talent, literary recitation, sight reading, and multiple levels of grammar and vocabulary.

With SC18 now complete, preparations are already underway for next year’s SC19, which will mark the 50th Annual Convention. If you have questions about the Spanish Convention or would like to be involved with organizing efforts for next year please contact us at spanishconvention@ua.edu. For questions regarding Federation membership, please contact contact FCEA directly.

Here are a couple pictures of some of the 663 competing students that visited our campus for SC18 at the closing ceremony, many of them already holding trophies from successfully completed challenges! Photo credit: Ernesto Kortright.
