Scholarships

 

The German program offers scholarships available to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in German. From support of studies on the campus of The University of Alabama or in a German speaking country to Graduate Teaching Assistantships, there might be a scholarship available and waiting for you. The avalability of funds might differ from year to year.

 

Scholarship for incoming high school students from Alabama:

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Award for Excellence in German

to be awarded annually to the best high school senior in the State of Alabama as judged by the German Day competitions at the University of Alabama ($1,000 to be awarded upon enrollment as a German major at the University of Alabama).

 

Scholarships for students currently enrolled at The University of Alabama:

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Scholarship for Business German and/or German for Engineers

to be awarded annually to one or two students who major in Business and German and/or Engineering and German, scholarship amount up to $1000.
Applicants should be on the third year level of German and must have declared German as their major.

 

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Scholarship for Study in Germany

to be awarded annually to German majors to participate in one of our study abroad programs in Germany (scholarship amount up to $1000).
Applicants should be on the third year level of German and must have declared German as their major.

 

Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Scholarship for German Undergraduate Major with Exceptional Progress in German

to be awarded to a student who has made exceptional progress in German. This scholarship will be awarded if additional funds are available.
Applicants should be at least on the third year level of German and must have declared German as their major.

 

Federation of German-American Clubs Exchange Program

to be awarded annually for study at a German university of the student’s choice for a full academic year (September/October-July), sponsored by the Verband der Deutsch-Amerikanischen Clubs. Students do not pay tuition at The University of Alabama, but can transfer course credit earned in Germany for their UA degree.This generous stipend covers living expenses and fees abroad. Nominated by faculty.
At least Junior standing and advanced proficiency in German and majoring in German are required.

 

Bell-Spicer Scholarship for Participation in Summer Study program
Alabama in Austria / Alabama in Germany

to be awarded annually to German majors to participate in the summer study abroad program in Austria or Germany. Applicants must have completed their first year of German classes. German majors are given preference.

 

Apply to any of these scholarships by submitting an application by February 20, 2012.
A complete application consists of:

1. an application form (copy or print out from this link).

2. Résumé (CV) with current GPA .

3. Proof of German major or double major or German M.A.

4. A short letter with information regarding your “German” career (study abroad etc.) and explaining how this scholarship would help you with your study of German (1-2 pages).

Applications may be submitted to any German instructor.
