St. Martin’s Day Lantern Event

November 9, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

The Tuscaloosa St. Martin’s Day celebration will take place on November 9, 2017 at Tuscaloosa Academy and will consist of a horse-led parade featuring children carrying homemade lanterns.

St. Martin’s Day is a beloved festival in German-speaking countries. The University of Alabama German Program in conjunction with Tuscaloosa Academy organizes this St. Martin’s Day celebration to raise awareness for this holiday, and give our community the opportunity to more thoroughly engage with German culture.

Dr. Range and Dr. Feminella, both Assistant Professors in the German Program in Modern Languages and Classics, are cooperating with the Tuscaloosa Academy for this event, enlisting the support of parents, teachers and––most importantly for St. Martin’s Day––children. Community members are invited to the event. There will be traditional songs, a raffle, and a “Lantern Competition”. Attendees can purchase food for a small fee.
